C.H. Robinson Brings Creative Solutions to Keep Project Moving

C.H. Robinson Project Logistics recently completed a nine-month project involving multiple ocean shipments of oversized cargo from Portugal to the USA.

“Similar to what many shippers are still dealing with today, this large shipment came at a time when the market was extremely volatile due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. With elevated demand and capacity almost non-existent, the C.H. Robinson team utilized our scale and information advantage to bring forth creative solutions to keep the customer’s freight moving.

First, we utilized out-of-gauge flat racks and open-top containers to transport the equipment through container carriers. For the breakbulk equipment, we relied on MAFI trailers and transported via RORO vessels. The final shipment involved the two largest pieces (measuring 4.63 x 4.36 x 4.44m) and these units were loaded into the vessel using shore cranes and secured below deck for the ocean voyage.

When the ship arrived in Savannah, the team performed a direct discharge onto waiting trucks, ready for inland trucking to the job site. Due to the size of the largest unit, permits and police escorts were required to travel with the cargo. We also aided in delivering the project DDP door-to-door including customs clearance.”

Despite the market volatility, all the cargo arrived safely and on time thanks to the C.H. Robinson team and much to the satisfaction of their customer.
