Photographed above is a completed project handled and cleared by Land-Air Cargo Services for the Salima Sugar Plant in Malawi. LACS was contracted by the Ministry of Finance in Malawi to handle and clear project cargo for the full construction of the sugar plant.
The cargo included boilers, construction parts and steel structures which were shipped from India to Malawi via Beira Port in Mozambique and Dar-es-Salaam Port in Tanzania. The project ran for almost 3 years with the total weight of cargo handled reaching 45,000tns with oversized and heavy pieces up to 120tns each. As well as breakbulk, tri-axle trucks and abnormal trucks, the project involved 900 x 40′ containers, 300 x 20′ containers and 75 x low-bed trucks.
The project was successfully and safely completed and the sugar plant is now in full operation. The Ministry of Finance and Malawi Government were very pleased with the services provided by Land-Air Cargo Services commenting that the project was handled ‘exceptionally well’ by the company.
